What is a barchetto boat?

A barchetto (little boat) is a traditional Florentine flat-bottomed wooden rowboat, historically used for fishing on the Arno. Modern tourist barchetto tours recreate this experience with a local gondolier-style skipper and typically include wine and local commentary.

Does the Arno boat cruise include wine?

Yes — most Arno barchetto cruises include local Chianti wine and sometimes bread or snacks as part of the experience, served on board during the cruise.

How long is the Arno River cruise in Florence?

Arno boat cruises typically last 45–75 minutes, depending on the operator. The route passes Florence's historic bridges including Ponte Vecchio, Ponte Santa Trinita, and Ponte alle Grazie, with city views from the water.

When is the best time for the Arno boat cruise?

Late afternoon (4–6 PM) is ideal — the golden light on the Ponte Vecchio and the medieval city skyline is especially beautiful. Evening cruises (when available in summer) offer a romantic and atmospheric experience.
